About Our Board of Realtors

At the Ocean City Board of REALTORS® , our members are committed to bringing you the finest services available. They do that by building long-term relationships and getting to know what you want for your home.. Our REALTORS® and brokers are certified professionals who have earned their clients' loyalty through the sale of thousands of properties in this community.

The Ocean City Board of REALTORS® is the only Board of REALTORS® in New Jersey that's geographic jurisdiction is limited to one city. The Board was founded in 1920 and has been serving the citizens, property owners, and guests of the resort since that time. Our membership consists of some 26 offices and approximately 550 members.

As REALTORS® we subscribe to a higher standard of ethics than other licensees without membership within the REALTOR® organization. For your information a copy of the CODE OF ETHICS is available at this site for your review. Upon joining the Board our members take an oath to adhere to the Code in all their business dealings.

Ocean City REALTORS® do more than help their clients buy, sell, or lease properties; they are active members of the community. As such, REALTORS® work to advance property rights, conduct fundraising efforts, support local beautification projects, provide scholarships for Ocean City High School students, and address local issues through their work within the community organization. In brief, the goal of Ocean City Board of REALTOR® members is to help make our island the best place to live both for full time residents and our guests.

Ethics Training

Between January 1, 2008 and December 31, 2011, every REALTOR® is required to complete 2 1/2 hours of Code of Ethics training. REALTORS® who have completed this training as a requirement of membership in another association are not required to complete additional ethics training until the next four year cycle. An on-line Quadrennial REALTOR® Ethics Training Course has been developed to assist you. REALTORS® can stop and restart the course at their convenience within a 30-day time period. S uccessful completion is recorded in the National REALTORS Database System (NRDS) and satisfies a member's Code of Ethics training requirements. Start Ethics Training.

Fair Housing

All citizens have the right to obtain housing without facing discrimination. The Fair Housing Act, which was enacted on April 11, 1968, prohibits discrimination in the sale, rental, and financing of dwellings, and in other housing-related transactions, based on race, color, national origin, religion, sex, familial status (including children under the age of 18 living with parents of legal custodians, pregnant women, and people securing custody of children under the age of 18), and handicap (disability). This year marks the 41st anniversary of the Fair Housing Act.

The New Jersey Law Against Discrimination (LAD) also prohibits discrimination when selling or renting property. It covers owners, agents, employees and brokers and makes it unlawful to refuse to rent, show or sell property based on a person's race, creed, color, national origin, nationality, ancestry, marital status, domestic partnership status, familial status, gender identity or expression, affectional or sexual orientation, sex, or mental and physical disability, including AIDS and HIV-related illness.

At the time of the taking of any listing of residential property, real estate licensees are required to provide a property owner with the Attorney General's Memorandum, which includes a summary of the New Jersey Law Against Discrimination.

REALTORS® support fair housing by pledging to subscribe to the Code of Ethics. Article 10 of the Code sets forth standards of practice, which include a REALTORS®' duties to not deny equal professional services to any person for reasons of race, color, religion, sex, handicap, familial status, or national origin.
